This review will examine the Toshiba TDDP5012ES2P Dehumidifier and its various features, including its noise output, timer function, and overall performance. We will also discuss the unit's ability to remove moisture and maintain appropriate humidity levels and its customer service and preventive care measures. It is important to note that the Toshiba TDDP5012ES2P Dehumidifier has received the 2019 DOE standard for water removal under 65º F and 60 percent relative humidity.
Noise Output
One aspect to consider when purchasing a dehumidifier is the noise output. The Toshiba TDDP5012ES2P has a raw noise output of around 52 dB, which is a bit louder than some other 50-pint units. However, it should be noted that the noise may not be as noticeable as some other dehumidifiers due to its pleasing white noise.
Timer Function
The Toshiba TDDP5012ES2P Dehumidifier also has a timer function that allows users to set the unit to turn off after a certain period. This can be useful for conserving energy and reducing the unit's overall noise output. The timer function can be easily accessed through the control panel on the unit's rear panel.
Performance
In terms of performance, the Toshiba TDDP5012ES2P Dehumidifier effectively removes excess moisture and maintains appropriate humidity levels. In our tests, the unit removed an average of 34 pints of moisture per day under 65º F and 60 percent relative humidity (the new 2019 DOE standard). However, it should be noted that the Toshiba took much longer than most other 50-pint units we tested to dehumidify our test space from 90% down to 40% relative humidity. We measured how long it took each 50-pint dehumidifier we tested to lower room humidity from 90% down to 40% and then from 80% down to 50% (an easier test). We saw much more variance in the first test (90 to 40%) than the second test (80 to 50%) as it was by far the more difficult test. Most 50-pint dehumidifiers can handle 80% humidity with ease, but the jump from 90% to 40% is a much bigger challenge.
Customer Service
Regarding customer service, the Toshiba TDDP5012ES2P Dehumidifier is backed by the Toshiba Lifestyle Products & Services Corporation. Consumers can contact the authorized service center for any issues with the unit or seek assistance from a qualified service technician. It is important to note that the Toshiba TDDP5012ES2P Dehumidifier comes with a warning about the possibility of death or injury due to electrical shock and the potential for property damage due to defective workmanship. It is crucial to follow all safety precautions outlined in the User Manual and to seek assistance from a qualified service technician if necessary.
Preventive Care
To ensure optimal performance, it is important to clean and maintain the Toshiba TDDP5012ES2P Dehumidifier regularly. This includes cleaning the air filter, checking the filter light, and cleaning the unit with mild detergent. It is also important to ensure proper ventilation and adequate circulation of air in the room where the unit is being used. Lack of ventilation can lead to operational failure and the possibility of injury or death due to electrical shock. The unit should also be kept upright and away from water sources to prevent water damage and injury. It is recommended to regularly check the water window and empty the water tank or use the continuous drain hose outlet to prevent the unit from becoming full and ceasing operation. The water bucket or drain hose outlet should also be emptied regularly to prevent the unit from becoming too heavy and causing property damage.
In addition, it is important to pay attention to the control panel and LED display for warning notices or error messages. If the humidity sensor error message appears, it may be necessary to recalibrate the sensor or seek assistance from a qualified service technician. It is also recommended to use the three-prong grounding plug and ensure proper grounding to reduce the risk of electrical shock.
Regarding energy efficiency, the Toshiba TDDP5012ES2P Dehumidifier has a range of watts from about 500 to 700, depending on the fan speed and mode of operation. The unit also has an auto re-start feature to resume operation after a power outage. It is important to note that higher fan speeds or continuous operation may result in higher energy usage.
Overall, the Toshiba TDDP5012ES2P Dehumidifier is reliable and effective for removing excess moisture and maintaining appropriate humidity levels. It is important to follow proper preventive care measures and seek assistance from a qualified service technician to ensure optimal performance and safety.
