How much does it cost to run a 1500 watt heater for 24 hours?
Cost of 1500 Watt Heater Working for 24 Hours
24 hours of operation might seem like a lot but during freezing cold weather, you may want to work the heater continuously to withstand chilling temperatures. Feeling warm and cozy makes those winter months bearable, until you get the bill.
To find out what the total cost will be, you should first figure out the cost per kilowatt hour. In many parts of the globe, the cost of electricity per kilowatt hour is around 10 cents. But what is a kilowatt hour? It is the energy consumed by an appliance rated at 1000 watts (or 1 kilowatt) when it works for an hour.
Assuming that the cost per kilowatt hour is 10 cents in your locale, then for a 1500 watt heater, the cost per hour will be $0.15. That does not seem too high. In fact, it appears very much affordable. However, when you calculate the cost for one month of continuous operation, then it is not all that economical.
The cost for 24 hours of operation over 30 days equals to $0.15 x 24 x 30 = $108. That is, in addition to how much you normally incur on your utilities, you will have to pay over a hundred dollars extra. This represents a sizeable increase in your energy bills.
Saving Heating Costs
If you want to save on your heating costs, you may have to think about using a smaller electric heater. That is possible only if your room is small enough to make a compact electric heater feasible. If your room is too big then the heater may not be able to provide the warmth and comfort that you intend. If using a smaller electric heater is possible then you should switch to one in order to bring down your monthly bills.
You may also want to check on your thermostat to lower heating costs. You can lower costs considerably if you keep your thermostat at a lower setting.
If you set the thermostat too high, then besides getting high energy bills, you may also end up with high temperatures that may be rather uncomfortable at times. The purpose of having an electric heater is not to keep your room hot. While having it fairly hot could feel nice when you come from outside, after some time it could start feeling uncomfortable for you.
Other Ways of Keeping Warm
You can also think about lowering the thermostat to keep costs down even if it means having rather chilly temperatures for a few hours. During this time, you could keep yourself warm in a blanket, don warm clothes and even sip a good old fashioned hot cup of coffee. Doing so is not that bad of an idea since it will actually help you to enjoy the winter.
