The hygrometer provides the readings for humidity levels, whereas the hydrostat is the built-in sensor that triggers the compressor to work for reaching the desired level.

You can argue that the hygrometer in this GE dehumidifier is inaccurate. However, it’s the norm for 70 pint dehumidifiers to read humidity in 5% increments as opposed to 30 pint humidifiers, for instance.

Ambient Noise

The GE ADEL70LR hits a maximum of 59 dBA at the highest fan speed. Putting that into perspective, this noise output equates to a nearby conversation, and this is typical for a dehumidifier.

I believe there’s more to ambient noise than what GE provides on the spec sheet. By that, I mean that I judged the noise output based on 2 factors: the compressor and the outlet grill’s placement.

I noticed no compressor buzzes even at the 3rd fan speed. Additionally, this 70 pint dehumidifier has the outlet grill on the top, meaning that the fan distributes the noise evenly across the room instead of directing it towards a certain area.

Moisture Removal

I wished the GE ADEL70LR would feature an internal condensate pump that draws the water vertically. Though unnecessary, I thought of buying a stand-alone pump for a more hands-off approach.

Functionality

What makes this dehumidifier versatile is 2 things: continuous and defrost modes.

The continuous mode allows for unceasing operation regardless of the humidity level, which has been so useful in my laundry room. Furthermore, the defrost mode causes the compressor to cycle off in freezing temperatures to help melt the ice around the evaporator coil.

The control panel has buttons for the timer, 3 fan speeds, hygrometer, and resetting the air filter. Moreover, you’ll find 3 LEDs for the condensate bucket, continuous mode, and filter cleaning. I think a 70 pint humidifier should have a 24 hour timer, but this unit only limits it up to 4 hours.
